Welcome Home! Oahu, Hawaii Military Homecoming Photography

I love military homecoming sessions! This past Valentine's Day I got to photograph Katerina's husband coming home to Pearl Harbor, HI and seeing all the joy of sailors from the USS Texas reuniting with their families.

All last week was rainy and stormy weather and the morning of Valentine's Day was no exception. The night before I ran to the store to find a clear(ish) umbrella and watched the weather obsessively until it was time to meet on Pearl Harbor.  We watched the submarine pull into the harbor and it passed the families the rain slowed down and by the time we got to the pier the rain was almost done! When her husband came off the rain was a light sprinkle and we were able to get lots of photos. They held each other so tight he forgot he had a rose in is hand for her! Her husband also earned his Dolphin Pin (which is a HUGE deal for a submarine officer, google it) and waited until he was on land so Katerina could pin it to him.

Needless to say, with my husband gone (but not for much longer) it was wonderful to celebrate Valentine's Day by documenting a couple coming back together again!

I'm really trying to get better at blogging, so if you'd like your session to be featured please let me know!

Aloha,

Sarah

First Post of 2018!

Well better late than never I guess! Now that the ‘busy’ photo season is over I’m thinking about what an awesome first year SNP had in Hawaii! Things are already kicking here again since the new year, I’ve already shot one wedding at Kualoa Rach (which if you’re visiting Oahu you have to go there) and I’ve got a wedding in Kauai for July! I’m getting lots of emails for family sessions and even underwater portraits! I’m hoping this year to be more in the water and really hone my underwater portrait skills in the ocean. In the meantime I’ve got some room left for weddings in the summertime and there’s always room for family, maternity, newborn, military homecoming, boudoir, real estate, cake smash, birth and first 48 sessions! If you’re thinking about booking a session reach out so I can block off a session for you! Starting to get really busy again in March, so the sooner the better! :)

Here’s one of my favorite couples from last year, Joe and Pat’s wedding on Magic Island, portraits at China Walls and reception at the famous Duke’s in Waikiki. We also started the day surfing as well with the bridal party!

Yuki and Ikem Hawaii Engagement Session : Sarah Nail Photography Oahu Wedding and Engagement Photography.

I had the tremendous pleasure of photographing Yuki and Ikem’s engagement photos while they were here on Oahu earlier this month. Yuki, who’s from Japan, and Ikem, who’s from Nigeria, met during university in Canada! They’ve been in love for a long time and will tie the knot in August in Japan. We had a great time in the Windward side and the China Walls during sunset. They’re a fantastic couple and had so much fun shooting them!

The Todd Family! Sarah Nail Photography North Shore Family Photographer

Well I’m averaging a blog a month these days! I’ve been so blessed to be so busy within such a short time here on Oahu! One of my favorite sessions recently is the Todd family! They were reunited after a log deployment and I had the honor of doing their ‘reunited’ family photoshoot! Their daughter was the perfect model and I had a great time working with them!

The Hartings in Ocean Beach! Sarah Nail Photography: San Diego Family Photography

Probably one of the best parts of being of portrait sessions is getting to know my clients! The Harting family visited Ocean Beach in San Diego, CA and decided what a better way to enjoy their visit by getting their portraits done. Its also a great way to check off Holiday Card photos off the list too! ;) They were so open to all my crazy ideas (except the youngest lady, she want’ super excited about the cold water). When she saw the surfers waiting for their next set she said, “Duckies!” Needless to say I died laughing!

Wedding Anniversary at Cabrillo National Monument: Sarah Nail Photography, San Diego, CA Photographer

The military life moves quickly; when you find the love of your life and they are in the service romance sometimes needs to take a backseat. Kaitlynn and Mike have been married for two years, have two handsome sons together and to celebrate their second anniversary wanted some ‘real’ wedding photos! I met Kaitlynn when Mike returned from a deployment earlier this year, she was still pregnant with their second son and he made it home just in time because two days later she went into labor! I was honored to help celebrate their love, we went to Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma and Kaitlynn’s mom was on hand to help with her two of her grandchildren. Happy (now belated) Anniversary!

Sarah Nail Photography Best of 2015: San Diego Photographer

What a wonderful year it has been! Its the first year Sarah Nail Photography is full time in San Diego, CA. My husband/ business partner/ CFO/ stand in assistant has continued to support our new business venture and push me in the right direction. Without Zac I wouldn't have had the courage to start shooting full time and push for the dream of being my own boss.

Anthony the assistant/ intern/ human light stand is a stellar person and I'm so thankful he's agreed to help my scattered brain and be a huge help with clients. He's always calm, makes kids laugh, and can carry anything on a skateboard, while skating. (Which I'm secretly jealous of.) I can't wait to teach him more camera things!

Here's some of my favorite shots from this year, some Grand Cayman, favorite portraits and a few just for fun. I can't wait for the up coming adventures for 2016, such as a trip to Cuba and Mammoth, this year should be just as exciting!

Thank you to all our clients for letting us be part of these special moments in your life!

Corbin Popped the Question!

My brother-in-law, Corbin, asked his girlfriend, Kimberly, of almost 7 years to marry him on December 23rd! Zac and I were home for the holidays in East Texas and were in on the plan; have everyone over to the house to open one present before Christmas, Kimberly would have to be last. Corbin wrapped the ring inside of a box, inside a box, inside a box; on each box was a letter telling Kimberly how extraordinary she is. Once she got to the smallest box Corbin dropped to his knees and asked the question, to which the answer was a quick,' YES!' A very exciting moment for our family and I was thrilled to be there for it!!! We did their engagement photos Christmas Eve, stay tuned for those! Congrats Corbin and Kimmy!
