Welcome Home! Oahu, Hawaii Military Homecoming Photography

I love military homecoming sessions! This past Valentine's Day I got to photograph Katerina's husband coming home to Pearl Harbor, HI and seeing all the joy of sailors from the USS Texas reuniting with their families.

All last week was rainy and stormy weather and the morning of Valentine's Day was no exception. The night before I ran to the store to find a clear(ish) umbrella and watched the weather obsessively until it was time to meet on Pearl Harbor.  We watched the submarine pull into the harbor and it passed the families the rain slowed down and by the time we got to the pier the rain was almost done! When her husband came off the rain was a light sprinkle and we were able to get lots of photos. They held each other so tight he forgot he had a rose in is hand for her! Her husband also earned his Dolphin Pin (which is a HUGE deal for a submarine officer, google it) and waited until he was on land so Katerina could pin it to him.

Needless to say, with my husband gone (but not for much longer) it was wonderful to celebrate Valentine's Day by documenting a couple coming back together again!

I'm really trying to get better at blogging, so if you'd like your session to be featured please let me know!

Aloha,

Sarah

Welcome home Allchin! Sarah Nail Photography: San Diego and Oahu Military Homecoming Photography

Its been a busy October for military homecomings! I got to meet the Allchin family as they welcomed home their husband and dad! His tour was with the USNS Mercy with his helicopter squadron HSC-21 on NAS Coronado. The crew returned on four helicopters and for this former aircrew wife brought back a lot of fond memories hanging out my husband’s squadron. Here’s a few of my favorite images from their homecoming.

Welcome Home Lt. Kelly! Sarah Nail Photography, Military Homecoming Photography San Diego, CA

Yesterday I photographed the USS Rushmore bringing home Lt. Kelly back to San Diego, CA just in time for Christmas! The Kelly's are friends with the Saade's and Lt. Saade came home too. These two men made their families holiday complete! Enjoy this double homecoming!

USS Roosevelt Homecoming with the Droughn Family! San Diego Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing the return of the new Chief Droughn! While out to sea he made Chief, which is a HUGE deal, and his family was given VIP access to his homecoming. For those of you who don't know how a navy ship homecoming works; the first people off are the big wigs of the boat (captain, etc.) then come the winners of the first kiss raffle (spouses at home enter a chance to have their sailor come off the boat in the first wave to get that first smooch) then come the new dads (where I always cry) and then the new chiefs! Being a VIP is so cool, there's food, chairs, local San Diego mascots from our attractions and you are literally next to the carrier! The Droughn kids were great sports by letting me take their photo the entire time, the helped their mom put the finishing touches on their sign and flew past the news reporters standing between them and their dad! I had to fight the reporters, camera man and photojournalists away to get there, hopefully the people that got my elbows to their ribs survived ok. ;) Overall, this was one of the most memorable homecomings and I'm honored to have photographed it! <3

Homecoming x3!

Last Friday SNP had its first TRIPLE homecoming at Mirmar base in San Diego, CA. My two second shooters (Zac and Anthony) were up with me at 4:45am in the rain and ready to go. We each had our client and were able to capture the moments when their spouses landed and families were reunited! I'm a sucker for a homecoming; in case you were wondering- yes I cry, but only when I'm editing! Is there anything better than love?! Welcome Home Deniz, Reed and Gunsalus!!!
